Individual Therapy

Individuals come to YNC for various reasons. Some may need help with long term or long standing issues. Those individuals often choose therapy to assist with overcoming those issues. Therapy may help people who are facing an issue that they would like to see changed and improved in their life. People may seek individual therapy following a major life change or a more long standing issue that needs some resolution. Individual therapy can be on a short term (6 to 12 sessions) or a long term basis depending on the issue. Your counselor will work with you to decide what is the core issue that you would like to see changed and improved and how best we can approach and treat that issue in therapy.

Immigration Services

Gaining citizenship can open many doors. However, the immigration process can be very stressful. Dr. Shareefah's multicultural specialization helps her provide comprehensive and well written evaluations to aid in the immigration process.  

She has worked with persons seeking Asylum for Female Genital Mutilation and Political Imprisonment. She also conducts evaluations for persons seeking a U-Visa. Dr. Shareefah is aware of the time sensitive nature of these hearings. She can be contacted by clients directly or by attorneys. 

 All of these services are conducted by Dr. Shareefah only given the legality and sensitivity of these services.   

Couple and Parenting Services

Couples may seek therapy in order to help resolve issues within the relationship. YNC performs pre-marital counseling and couple's counseling. Couple's therapy must occur with both parties.

Parents may need to need discuss issues regarding child rearing, negotiate parenting boundaries, or visitation agreements. We will work with parents to develop healthy family systems.

Currently, we do not provide services to youth below 14.

Psychological Assessments

Individuals may need an assessments for a myriad of things such as employment, school, or medical procedures. We conduct full psychological evaluations (IQ testing, Achievement Testing), diagnostic clarification (ADHD) and medical clearing (bariatric surgery) evaluations. Please contact us for fees.

Sliding Fee Scale

We provide sliding fee scale services. All of these services are performed by competent graduate students to help ensure that they are well trained and are able to work with diverse communities once they graduate. Immigration Services are not among the sliding fee services because of their legal ramifications.
